Modernize your PowerBuilder app.
Without losing a single rule.

We replace the PowerBuilder presentation layer with a contemporary web or mobile frontend while rehosting your DataWindow business logic in .NET — verified, tested, and running in parallel until every output matches. While the .NET DataStore is not mandatory, it reduces dramatically business logic rewriting.

Why it works

The logic is the asset. The presentation is the liability.

Every PowerBuilder modernization that has failed did so for the same reason: the team tried to rebuild the DataWindow logic from scratch. We don't rebuild it. We rehost it.

šŸ”’
Zero business logic lost
Every DataWindow is inventoried, exported, and executed inside .NET DataStore. Computed columns, validation rules, display formats — all running identically to the original.
šŸ“±
Modern UI on any device
The frontend is built from scratch in React, Angular, or Vue — responsive, accessible, and designed for how users actually work today: phone, tablet, and desktop.
⚔
Incremental, low-risk delivery
Screen by screen migration. The legacy application keeps running in shadow mode while each new module is verified. No big-bang cutover. No surprise regressions.
šŸ”
Automated regression safety net
We run both systems against the same inputs and compare every output automatically. If outputs diverge, we fix it before you ever see it.
šŸ§‘ā€šŸ’»
Maintainable by any .NET dev
Once migrated, any competent .NET or frontend developer can maintain and extend the system. You're no longer dependent on a shrinking pool of PowerBuilder specialists.
šŸš€
API-first, future-ready
The ASP.NET Core backend exposes a versioned REST API that can serve a web app, a mobile app, partner integrations, and data pipelines — simultaneously.
How it works

From inventory to cutover. A process with no surprises.

We follow the same structured sequence on every engagement. You always know where you are, what comes next, and what the acceptance criteria look like.

01
Discovery & Inventory
We export all .pbl libraries and parse every DataWindow object, window, function, and global variable. You receive an inventory report that categorizes objects by type, complexity, and dependency relationships.
DataWindow audit Dependency graph Effort estimate
02
Regression Harness Setup
Before writing a single line of new code, we establish a regression test harness that drives both the legacy application and the new .NET DataStore API with identical inputs and compares their outputs automatically.
Automated testing Output comparison Behavioral baseline
03
Screen-by-Screen Migration
We migrate following the dependency graph — simple lookup screens first, complex transactional screens last. Each screen: export DataWindows → configure in .NET DataStore → build API endpoints → build frontend → regression test → UAT → production.

04
Parallel Running
As each module goes live, production transactions are processed by both systems. The legacy system's output is authoritative. Any divergence is investigated and resolved before the modernized module becomes primary.
Shadow mode Production validation Zero regression tolerance
05
Cutover & Decommission
The legacy PowerBuilder application is retired module by module — never as a big-bang event. After cutover, .NET DataStore objects provide a stable foundation from which gradual further modernization continues at your pace.

AI-assisted acceleration

We use the same methodology — Futurize PB adds AI tooling to cut screen-by-screen migration time by ~60%, without touching your business logic or regression process.

Modernization doesn't always mean decommission.

Risk management and asset protection is far more important than a technical modernization.
